Official Metroid Prime Trilogy Box Art Revealed

Nintendo recently revealed the official box art for the Metroid Prime Trilogy set for the Nintendo Wii. The collector’s edition comes in a metal tin with a cover sleeve and an art booklet for the Metroid Prime trilogy.

Sure the case is no wasa-bi creation but after the lapse with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption’s box art I personally couldn’t be anymore (more…)

Nintendo announces Metroid: Other M at e3

Nintendo announces Metroid: Other M at e3

Any objections lady?

So unless you have been living in a hole for the past few days by now you know that Nintendo has announced a new Metroid for the Wii at this years e3 conference.

Dubbed Project M it is a collaboration by Nintendo and Team Ninja (the people behind Ninja Gaiden). Set between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion this story promises to reveal some of Samus’ back story as well as what happened to her former commanding officer Adam Malkovich.

The trailer also looks fantastic showing what the Wii can be graphically capable of. It showcases a hybrid 2D/3D gameplay style. It should be interesting to see how this 2.5D plays out. The game is expected to release sometime in 2010. Personally I’m just glad Team Ninja showed restraint in Samus’ figure.

Metroid Prime Enemy Dioramas by Toby Heinemann

Metroid Prime Enemy Dioramas by Toby Heinemann

We go back to Lego for this post. Creator Toby Heineman constructed dioramas of two of Metroid Prime’s variations of common enemies.

We contacted him and he was able to offer us some insight into their construction.

The build for the Reaper Vine was quite straightforward, as the creature itself is so simple. the harder part was designing a background that meshed with the Chozo Ruins aesthetic. I’m severely deprived of parts in tan, so I had to use some funky angles to get the right effect. The floor is probably the most telling part of the dio, as far as relating it to the Ruins goes. The varied floor levels and sizes in the rooms of the Ruins were the main inspiration for the unusual tile heights I used in the floor sections.

Metroid Hats

Metroid Hats

Well, this is pretty much all we needed, isn’t it? Any fan of the Half Life series is surely fond of the famous and craved for Headcrab hats. The gist of it all is that those hats work just as the Headcrabs seen in the games: by latching unto one’s head.

Considering how similar this behavior is between Headcrabs and Metroids it was obvious that Metroid hats would eventually be made. But don’t go ahead and think they’re official Nintendo toys. They’re just a simple yet brilliant idea developed by Eyes5, from metroidhat.com. (more…)

Official Japanese Metroid site hinting at new metroid game?

metroid-side-storyI know what you’re thinking, and I doubt it. Now hold on, before you shoot me let me explain why. If you’re still flying under the radar the official japanese Metroid site has this little segment posted below the page. The japanese texts translates to “Follow the history of Metroid Prime from the perspective of the Space Pirates”. Now I’m not saying it couldn’t be a new game. It most certainly well could (more…)

“Dread”ful thoughts & Prime given date in Japan

Screenshot of Original Metroid

I was surfing the web the other day and came across a particularly interesting blog post on Reset Glitch that expressed some of my own concerns regarding the Metroid series. According to an IGN podcast Dread once existed but was canned. I agree with Reset Glitch that the Metroid series needs another 2D game to help revitalize the series, especially for some of the older fans. A general shift in the amount of Casual games Nintendo has been producing as of late should show cause for concern on their part. When the steam dies down in regards to casual gamers purchasing these types of games how far will Nintendo go to get me to dust off their latest system? And what am I to do for a doorstop if and when that happens?

Tallon IV

Rounding up the year with a quick look back at 2008 fan creations. The Metroid Manga has been fully translated and 2009 should be another great year. Take a small glimpse at what we have in store for 2009.

Short look at 2008

It has been a relatively quiet year for Metroid fans. The excitement over Metroid Prime 3: Corruption seems to have died down and aside from gamecube to wii ports it seems not much is happening in the Metroid universe over at Nintendo.

Metroid Lego Roundup!

Who doesn’t like Legos? I personally love it. Piecing stuff together is always entertaining, and creating toys on your own is always exiting and is sure to bring to life the small kid hidden inside every one of us (that is, unless you’re still a small kid). And since this is a Metroid blog, it’s logical for a Lego article to pop up eventually. Well, here it is.
